Lamma 2023: Maxlife treatment toughens up wearing metal

Jun 03, 2023

Bourgault Tillage Tools is offering weld-on strips that are claimed to quadruple the working life of soil-engaging components, reducing the frequency and cost of replacing wearing metal on cultivators and drills.

Maxlife is heat-applied and contains solid chunks of tungsten carbide that are spread evenly across the face of a harrow tine, shank or scraper.

According to Ian Clayton-Bailey of the Canadian firm's UK subsidiary, these welded deposits are extremely tough and don't chip or flake when subjected to high impacts.

They come in various sizes that can be divided into strips to suit the width of the intended metalwork.

The biggest is 25x240mm, which costs £20, but can be split six ways for use on several legs.

Alternatively, there is a 15x190mm version that costs £8.50 and can be split into nine sections, and a narrow twin-strip 12x205mm that is ideal for coating two 12mm-wide legs. It is priced at £7.50.

Bourgault has also expanded the range of machines on which its VOS drilling system can be used.

Already a popular option on Horsch CO and Sprinter models, the setup can now be fitted to Weaving Sabre Tine, Amazone Cayena and Kuhn Megant drills, too.
